The South Island kōkako - the “Grey Ghost” - is one of Aotearoa’s most enduring conservation mysteries. Declared to be extinct for a short time, it's now classed "data deficient", after a number of possible sightings over the years. It continues to inspire those who refuse to give up hope for its survival.

The vision of the SIKCT is "to confirm that the remarkable South Island kōkako exists so that it can be conserved appropriately."
